Configuring the toolbar on your directory

Your directory automatically comes with a toolbar that website visitors and directory members can use to take various actions.

Search, filter and sort profiles

  • Click on Directories → [Directory name]
  • In the Look & Feel tab, scroll to Search & filter
  • Choose your search configuration

Basic

A single text box will show in the toolbar that will search for matches within the profile text and tags. To include location search, check the Enable location search box.

Advanced

The toolbar displays three options by default.

If you want to show or hide any of these (or customise the wording for each option) you can do so in the Buttons box, next to Search & Filter in the Look & Feel tab.

Search

Opens a popup with options to filter by any combination of:

  • Text search
  • Location search, with optional search radius (to include location search, check the Enable location search box)
  • Tags search

💡 You can configure additional settings by going to Directories → [Directory name] → Design → Search and filter settings

Tags

Opens a popup with a searchable list of tags to filter by

Order by

Allows people to choose how to sort profiles (the options available will depend on how you have set up fields in the Form Designer).

💡 You can set the default profile ordering by going to Directories → [Directory name] → Design → Ordering

No search

All search, filtering and sorting options are disabled and not shown in the toolbar.

Customise which options show on the toolbar

  • Click on Directories → [Directory name]
  • In the Look & Feel tab, scroll to Buttons

Here you can customise the wording for each toolbar option and choose which options to show or hide.

If you choose Show when logged in then those options will only be visible to members who have logged in through a Community Box account or via a third party integration (such as MemberSpace or Squarespace Member Sites). For example, you might choose to only show the Add or Edit entry options when someone is logged in.
